The PlayStation is the brainchild of Ken Kutaragi. He had always been facinated with technology and had imagined how more impressive computer technology could enhance game systems. He invisioned a higher-level computer based game system and knew what to call it. He figured that if computers that were used for work were called "workstations" then the same technology when used for entertainment should be called a "PlayStation."

He realized that his vision of such a product was not shared with others at Sony and further identified that such radical change in market development often required an external influence. So rather than designing an entire gaming platform, he convinced the company to develop a piece of hardware that would interface with Nintendo's Super Famicom (the Japanese name for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System). This device, to be called the Playstation, was a CD-ROM peripheral for the Super Famicom much like the Sega CD was for the Megadrive and Genesis.

This has caused a great deal of controversy in the past. Napster, a free music downloading program, caused a heated debate a couple years back. The United States bred Metal Band, Metallica, decided to sue Napster for the proceeds connected to their music. In their minds Napster was stealing money away from them.

Verizon's V CAST

Verizon Wireless announced the availability of V CAST Song ID, an enhancement to the V CAST Music service that allows users to easily identify songs. With V CAST Song ID, when users hear a song, they can capture a sample of what they are listening to on their phone and the service will identify the song. V CAST Song ID also lets consumers purchase the matching full-track song, ringtone or ringback tone over-the-air right from the cell phone.

To use the service, customers only need a V CAST Music-enabled phone to start identifying recorded music playing on the radio, in a club, on the street or from virtually

any music source. V CAST Song ID can identify more than four million songs, spanning almost all music genres, from the latest chart toppers to ‘80s rock classics. When the user places the phone near a music source and records a 10-second clip, V CAST Song ID names the artist, song and album title. After successful recognition, the application will determine if the song is available as a full-track song, ringtone or ringback tone and directly launch the Verizon Wireless’ V CAST Music store where the consumer has the option to purchase and download the track.

Parental Controls

In Windows Vista, Parental Controls is a new feature designed to let parents set controls for their children's computer use. Parental Controls are located in the Control Panel in Vista. To use Parental Controls, you first need to set up a new user account. The Parental Controls will be associated with this user account, which is the account you will have your children log on to the computer with. You can also choose to use activity reports to view your children's online activities. Options available under Parental Controls include the following:

Time Limits: setting specific time limits that will prevent logging on during certain times of the day
Game Content: controls to access games where you can set an appropriate age level and content type you want to block
Web Access: Allows you to restrict the Web sites that children visit and choose if you want to allow file transfers
Program-specific Controls: allows you to keep your children from running specific programs on the computer

Jammer

In cellphone terminology, a jammer is a device that blocks transmissions by creating interference. The jammer emits signals in the same frequency range that cell phones uses, and within the range of a jammer a cellphone user may lose their signal.

In satellite terminology it is a mobile ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) high-power noise source that can be used to jam satellite antennas or receivers.

RDBMS

Short for relational database management system and pronounced as separate letters, a type of database management system (DBMS) that stores data in the form of related tables. Relational databases are powerful because they require few assumptions about how data is related or how it will be extracted from the database. As a result, the same database can be viewed in many different ways.

An important feature of relational systems is that a single database can be spread across several tables. This differs from flat-file databases, in which each database is self-contained in a single table.

Almost all full-scale database systems are RDBMS's. Small database systems, however, use other designs that provide less flexibility in posing queries.

Database

The word database is a composition of "data" and "base". "Data" are facts of the real world, which is supplied by "base". The word "data base" was first used in the beginning of 1960's, then written as "data-base" and recently "database".

There is another word, file, in the meaning of collection of facts of the real world. However, a file is an accumulation of data of the same kind of structure. On the other hand, a database is an integration of different kind of data.
